Getting started for Granite, Marble and Natural Stone
  1. Once you have decided on granite or other natural stone, you will then need to make a selection for your project. All granites, marbles and natural stones are products of nature which have unique properties such as color range, texture, shading, and pitting.
  2. California Stone Works recommends the helpful and knowledgeable people at Arizona Tile when making your hands-on slab selection. The Arizona Tile Slab Warehouse is located at 7415-A Carroll Road, San Diego, California (858) 566-6195. They are a direct importer with world-wide connections and offer the largest selection of ceramic tile and natural stone in the southwest. The sales personnel At Arizona Tile are non-commissioned, so they are dedicated to serving your needs and not pushing product out the door.
  3. After selecting your slabs, contact fabricators in your area and send them a layout of your project . Most fabricators can provide you with a Preliminary Cost Estimate based upon your drawings.
  4. After reviewing competitive bids, it is time to visit the shops you are considering and make a final selection based upon an informed decision.
  5. Schedule a template date to measure your project. At California Stone Works we use wood templates so we can place your templates directly on the slab during the cutting process to insure a custom fitting project. In addition, we can usually template over your existing tile counter tops to minimize your kitchen down time during the fabrication of your slabs.
  6. On your scheduled installation date have all plywood counter tops cleared off the sink; faucet and stove top must be disconnected and removed prior to the final installation of the new granite counter tops.
  7. The installers will seal your new counter tops and leave you with some Stone Care products and information on how to maintain your counter tops.
