California Stone Works, located in San Diego, California, is a family owned and operated business. We specialize in custom designed marble & granite fabrication and installation. California Stone Works is proud of our long history of eminence and sterling reputation. Our quality of work with attention to minute detail has long been acknowledged by clients and competitors alike. We proudly trace our European heritage back to 1886. It was that year, that Joseph Patrick Sullivan, Grandfather of current owner, Rick Sullivan, proudly opened Sullivan Masonry.

The first shop was of humble beginnings, but rapidly flourished. The business was located in Connemarra, Ireland and was soon recognized for its strict, precise, and faithful attention to detail. A heritage we are extremely proud to follow closely today. Joseph, as a youth of 10 years old, was first apprenticed to hand carve Irish marble and fine masonry work at some of Irelands most recognized landmarks. Within a few years his mastery of this exacting work was recognized by the church and he was again apprenticed to Italy, where he trained and worked for 14 years. After selling his business, he left Ireland bringing his family, and strict work ethics to the United States.

The Sullivan family, finally settled in Vermont, home to the largest granite quarries in the world. While in Vermont, Ricks father proudly carried on his family's tradition of skilled artisans. Today, California Stone Works still employs the uncompromising European traditions of craftsmanship established by Joseph Sullivan over a hundred years ago. We use only the finest quarried stone obtainable and with our painstaking fabricating practices the results are a premium end product that will justify your investment for years to come.
